Global labour migration and global cities labour markets

Global labour migration and global cities labour markets Introduction Labour (human capital) is a significant provision in countries, which endeavour to progress economically. Evidently, there is a massive migration of labourers from one country to the next in search of appropriate job opportunities and reasonable pay. Global labour migration is a considerable concern in numerous contexts.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Global labour migration and global cities labour markets specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The situation has bountiful impacts on the native countries and host cities in terms of increasing population and augmentation of human expertise for the growth of the concerned cities. There is a critical relationship amid the two factions despite the condition. It is agreeable that when people leave their native countries to other cities for job opportunities, the trend leads to some impacts (Berg Kalleberg 2001). The labour markets of the host cities have exp erienced some remarkable changes despite the gradualism of the move. Additionally, endeavouring to provide enough opportunities for all these parties is challenging. This relates to the alleged relationships prospected between the global market migration and the labour markets of the global cities discerned in this context. This paper discusses the exact relationships that occur between the global labour migration and the cities involved in this context. It is crucial to consider the aspects of labour market due to their significance in the global market growth and other lucrative provisions they offer to the concerned parties. Major relationships From the studied sources, it is evident that there is a constructive relationship amidst the two factions. This is an important observation followings its ability to discern various aspects of the labour market and other characterizing features. Firstly, global labour migration refers to the phenomenon where human capital move from one cou ntry to the next. This starts when one leaves his or her country for further studies in a given country or city and fails to return back afterwards (Lucas 2008). The result is a massive brain drain with regard to this context. The fact that one offers his expertise (labour) in a foreign city conforms to aspects of labour migration. One major relationship in this context is the increase in the workforce levels in the host cities. This is with regard to skilled and non-killed human capital (Prentis 2006). A situation where labourers flock in another city will obviously increase the human capitals in such cities.Advertising Looking for assessment on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Conversely, the drained/sending countries will have labour deficit in their cities. Hence, the major relationship in this context is that there is a transfer of labour from one region to the next creating massive swell up in t he human capital in the host cities. This provision can be utilized constructively when the concerned cities have employment opportunities, which can be ceased by the migrating labourers for mutual benefits. Consequently, the global cities’ labour markets increase tremendously leading to surplus of workers and unemployment if not well managed. Observably, when potential employees move from one region to the next, the labour market in the receiving city will increase tremendously. This is an important relationship with regard to service provision, income generations, and labour market distribution mechanisms (Sunata 2010). It important to realize that labour markets varies from one region to the next. Precisely, labour market immigration ensures that numerous provisions with regard to human capital are evident. From this context, it is apparent that labour market immigration provides prominent influx of human resources into the receiving city. According to various sources, the re is a massive prevalence of global migration trends in the realms of labour markets as indicated earlier. Contextually, this trend cuts across various fields of specialization. This means that the alleged immigration will bring specialists from varying fields in the host cities. This is an imperative provision when scrutinized critically. Having numerous employees with varying specializations/disciplines in one city is a considerable move to the economic growth with regard to labour market exposition. Some labourers might turn to be generic skilled labourers depending on the situation. This is agreeable when considered decisively (OECD Nihon 2002). The relationship in this context is that the concerned cities will have a wider array of labourers in the context of specialization and other mattering provisions with regard to this context. Additionally, various characteristic of labourers will converge into one area. This might emerge with imperialism, creativity, diversity, and oth er prominent provisions important in the labour market context. The need to have skilled labours in various fields is an important phenomenon. Since labour immigration induces this phenomenon, it is vital to agree with the trend. The concerned cities will have a well-orchestrated labour force worth recognition.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Global labour migration and global cities labour markets specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Another considerable relationship is the exploitation of the immigrant workers in the host cities. Evidently, discrimination is a global phenomenon with some countries experiencing it principally. When labourers migrate from their home country in to the concerned host cities, the kind of jobs they might access might be discriminative (Lucas 2008). The concerned employers might find it hard to employ such people based prejudicial grounds. Consequently, the host cities will have numerou s immigrants experiencing limited job satisfaction, redundancy, or even minimal pays that are not commensurate to the jobs they assume. It is from this context that the concerned relationship between the labour market immigration and the global labour markets might be awry. Importantly, labour immigration increases the aspects of labour market precision hence dictating the mentioned provisions of the human capital. Contextually, labour immigrant should source appropriate jobs in cities where their affairs are prioritized. Failure to do this might lead to previous lamentations. The global cities’ labour markets possess expanded potentials to accommodate labourers of varying genres. This relates to the aspects of globalization, which must be embraced by numerous organizations and cities in order to stay competitive and relevant in the global limelight. Consequently, it is crucial to consider various aspects of this phenomenon as lucrative and considerable (Mahroum, 2001). Preci sely, promotion of globalization is an important relationship between the immigrant labourers and the concerned cities’ labour market. Since the world is changing rapidly in numerous contexts, it is apparent that most of the labour provision must meet the required global standards and other characterizing features in order to be considered lucrative. This means that global cities labour market induces the aspects of globalization hence requiring the emerging workforce to observe the new trends in the labour market.Advertising Looking for assessment on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This relates to the aspects of technology, diversity, and novelty required within labour force. The global cities labour markets require employees of exceptional competence. This might bar some employees with limited expertise from venture into the job market. The kind of competition evident in such labour markets is stringent and comprehensively competitive. Although global labour migration offers some opportunities to the host cities, it also ruins the global cities labour markets. It saturates the market hence leading to numerous mishaps. Consequently, the labour market even lacks its value when considered critically (Egbert 2007). It is through this context that such provisions emerge. Precisely, as long as the labour immigrations supplies labour to the target cities, it equally saturates the labour market of such cities if not well managed. This is a critical concept with regard to the mentioned relationships. Conversely, there are impacts of the labour immigration on the sendi ng countries in case the trend is hardly managed. The sending countries or cities might lack adequate skilled labourers in case their entire knowledgeable employees leave for other countries. Due to workforce imbalance, the concerned county will not grow despite the foreign exchanges earned. It is improper to consider this relationship appropriate. Additionally, building foreign cities/countries and abandoning the home city in dismay is disgraceful to the concerned country. Considerably, it is vital to consider the impacts that the lending cities experience before rendering the entire phenomenon viable. The situation is quite unfair and fronts an inconsiderable provision in various contexts. The impact varies between the highly-skilled workers and the less-skilled workers (Chiswick 2011). This situation even interferes with the concerned relationships between the global labour migration and the global cities labour markets. Importantly, it is vital to consider various aspects of thi s matter on both the host cities and the sending cities. As the global cities strive to gain massive from the foreign workforce, some critical eventualities emerge as indicated earlier in this very context. Another considerable relationship is that there are potential economic gains and losses from labour market migration (Bauder 2006). This is a critical consideration since anything that serves as good might be awful when critically scrutinized. There is nothing that can materialize significantly in this context minus some hitches. From this context it is apparent that global labour market migration has caused considerable economic criticalities. This forms a very critical phenomenon in the entire contexts. Various sources studied in this context recognize economic relationship amid these two factions. Additionally, the employability, efficiency, and output of labour immigrants depend massively on how the skills provided by such employees serves the interest of the potential employ ers (Lucas 2008). The global cities labour markets will not gain massively if the labour immigrants do not contain the required skills and prowess that the concerned employers demand. This is a critical phenomenon in various contexts. There are challenges and opportunities that are involved in the entire labour market migration context. Ability to share the aspects of labour is a critical provision. Conclusion Conclusively, there is a massive relationship between global labour migration and global cities labour markets as indicated earlier. The transfer of human capital from one region to the next is a rampant phenomenon noticeable globally. Most individuals have migrated to other cities in order to seek for lucrative job opportunities. Nonetheless, there are considerable relations amid the two factions. A prominent relationship in this context is the flocculation of employees in a given city leading to surplus of human capital at the expense of the mother/sending countries. This is quite unjust when considering the affairs of the sending countries. Enriching the labour market of a given city or country while depriving the other is inconsiderable. However there are economic, societal, political, and individualized relationships amidst the concerned labour migration and labour markets. Islamist movements Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Islamist movements - Assignment Example Hamas is best known throughout the world for carrying out Suicide bombings and other homicidal attacks against Israeli civilians to further its goal of creating an Islamic Republic of Palestine in the area that is now Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. However, the views of these Islamist movements as portrayed by the Western media has also shifted ideologically even though they are still, at large, dispersed in both positive and negative directions. In particular, the way the media of the West has recorded speeches delivered by the leaders of these groups is moving in a different direction. This research study is, therefore, aimed to initiate an investigation into the area of an ideological shift in the portrayal of these speeches and rhetoric by Western media. To make it more precise, this issue will be addressed from the viewpoint of the British and French media and how they have shifted in depicting the speeches and rhetoric of Osama bin Laden and Hamas movement of Palestine. The aim here is to look into the underlying causes of this shift, the way these speeches were portrayed before and the way they are portrayed now. The west waged a war against Afghanistan's fundamentalist groups and then against the dictator leadership in Iraq. However, the true war started right after the collapse of the twin towers when the TV screens, newspapers and magazines of the west launched a media attack against those suspected in the attacks. Islam was defined as a portrait of Bin Laden and terrorism. The term Islamic Fundamentalist was given life as a very negative, degrading or anti-western term in the western dominated media. As a result, a counter attack was launched by Islamist movements. Interviews of Bin Laden were published in the Middle Eastern press, videotapes were launched, audio files released widely over the internet casting views of these movements. The reaction of the West to these releases can however be seen as a transition of responses in which, initially the portrayal was very negative but gradually it entered into reasonableness. Forums and discussions started taking place in which both Western ideologists and Muslim scholars took part. While a marked improvement in the perception of Islam within the Western countries can be acknowledged, yet the beleaguering tendency to portray a distorted image of Islam within their media still remains intact. This study will, therefore, enable a better understanding of why these media were biased, if ever and what exactly are the ways that should be adopted to remove any biasness if there ever was. According to a discussion conducted by the BBC on perceptions of Islam in the British media, "Islam in the British media will continue to improve. More and more journalists are now anxious to pursue the truth. The BBC world Service in English has frequently sought Liberty's opinion on and analysis of developments in various parts of the Arab world. Today many more journalists and producers than ever before are anxious to provide their audience with fuller stories, clearer pictures and fairer images.". (Perceptions of Islam in the BBC and other Western media) The fact cannot be denied about recent awareness on the part of some journalists, TV and radio producers and commentators of covering some Islamic issues in a more objective manner. The coverage of the Bosnian tragedy as well as of the Chechnyan problem by the British media has been quite fair in spite of the biased policy of the

Major Project Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Major Project - Coursework Example In addition, it affects businesses and government ministries across all countries in the world. Increased competition, which has been on the rise thanks to globalization and technological advancements, has led to increased employee turnover (Ucho, Mkavga & Onyishi, 2012). Globalization has increased demands on companies and for an organization to survive these pressures; it has to follow the best practices that ensure that its human resource is nurtured well. When the human resource is satisfied, chances are high that employee turnover would be reduced. It is worth noting that organizations must aim to trim down costs at all times and these include work force training as well as technological costs. Following increased employee turnover, it is impossible to cut the labor training costs because the organization would be on the lookout for new employees at all times. To replace an employee, an organization has to spend more than a third of the new employee’s salary according to United States Department of Labor. This leads to increased costs, which could be eliminated by reducing employee turnover (Chawla & Sondhi, 2011). According to Coomber & Barriball (2007), employee turnover is not an issue that affects the private sector alone; it also affects government ministries across the world. In Britain, National Health Service reports that the number of nurses who voluntarily leave their jobs per year is worrying. In 2003, nursing staff turnover was 9.4% in the country. Nurses play a critical role in the health of the public in any given country. Following the increasing number of people with chronic diseases, long life expectancy and advance in medical technology, the number of needed nurses is increasing every day. When the turnover is high, the remaining staff members are pressurized to cover the posts left vacant by the departed colleagues and this increases stress on the remaining staff. This in the end,

A View From The Bridge Essay Example for Free

A View From The Bridge Essay Beatrice said, Whatever happened, we all done it in one of the final scenes in Arthur Millers play A View From The Bridge. I disagree with the above quotation, in my opinion, only three characters are to blame. Those being Eddie, Catherine and Rodolfo. Many factors became culpable for Eddies downfall in the concluding scene, such as his obsession with Catherine, Catherines flirtatious behaviour, the arrival of Rodolfo and so forth. Yet, many of these factors evolve around the character of Eddie. Therefore, if I had to point a finger of blame at one character alone, it would be Eddie. In the beginning of the play, our initial response to Eddie is that he dominates the household. He provides a father figure for Catherine, as he doesnt want her to expose herself to the attention of other men in their community. Eddie shows a lot of interest in Catherine and her appearance, he informed her of how she was walkin wavy and that her skirt was too short. The way Eddie made his opinion known and how his obsession affected his lifestyle, is obviously going to have a negative effect on him for the rest of his life. Catherines effect on Eddie soon jeopardised Eddies relationship with his wife, Beatrice. Eddie tried to please Catherine, whilst he became quickly resentful when talking to his wife. We can tell immediately of how this situation cannot stay this way, some event will have to occur for Eddie to make up his mind about who and what he wants. When the submarines, Marco and Rodolfo are introduced, Eddies jealous streak and competitiveness both become evident and culpable for the hostile welcome he greeted the cousins with. Rodolfo made an immediate impact on Catherine, who showed a lot of interest in the illegal immigrant. Catherines interest in Rodolfo and Rodolfos feelings for her infuriate Eddie. Eddie seems jealous and unwanted to a certain extent. Eddies blunt attitude towards Rodolfo spells trouble, as we can tell at some point this will come to a head. For example, Rodolfo begins to sing, much to the pleasure of Catherine and Beatrice, but Eddie interrupts this and tells Rodolfo to, wait a minute. This seems as if Eddie doesnt like Rodolfo entertaining, especially singing this song that could well have been aimed at Catherine.

The Relationship of Education and Technology Essay -- Argumentative Pe

The Relationship of Education and Technology Today's society seems to be relying more and more on technology. Computers are being placed in almost every machine placed on the market today. That brings to our attention that in the future things aren't going to change. Technology will increase as jobs may decrease and as the need for people with degrees in Computer Science and Engineering become most valuable to the labor industry. With all of this technology booming going on, where does education go in the middle of all of this? Does technology hold a position in education? Better yet, does education hold a position in all of this technology? I will answer these questions and more in following pages. The need for better education has been increasing significantly over many years now. Educators are not just being told to teach reading, writing, or arithmetic anymore. They are instructed to teach all of these things but with use of technology. With all of the technology coming out these days students are in need of the hi-tech knowledge. Making some educators go back to learn about the top technology in their fields. This bringing one of the first reasons that technology in education has its good and bad points. First, making educators go back to school time and time again only makes educators? jobs more difficult. There is more expected of them. On the positive side having educators go back to school and learn about the best technology increases the students? chances in having the best education that they could possibly have. Another point is the fact that technology is taking over. More and more educational tools are being created to increase students? learning abilities. Not only will these tools ... ...you expect everything to be run by computers then you are waiting for a let down after you must pay for the repairs of the machines you rely on. Teachers are the best source of information. Educators can be closely related to computers. You should respect us as you would a computer. You should allow time to recharge our batteries. Teachers also need to be upgraded. We can?t just give out the information we know, we must learn new information so that the old stuff can be renewed. Where technology seems to be taking over, schools may have a bit of technology in them but will not allow to be taken over by technology. I especially will not allow the technology take over. Learning Styles & Personality Types

Teamwork: Balancing Learning Styles and Personality Types R. Haynes GEN200 October 7, 2010 Abstract Three different learning styles and personality types were assessed to identify a strategy for the three to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team-setting. The use of the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator and Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences determined the different personality types and learning styles to study. Every personality type and learning style offers skills and abilities beneficial to teamwork.Students and employees benefit from knowing their personality type and learning style. It allows them to determine how they will best contribute to a team. Teamwork: Balancing Learning Styles and Personality Types Even though undefined, knowing one's learning style and personality type allows one to determine their skills and abilities to excel. The Myers-Briggs personality type indicator and Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligen ces was used to assess different personality types and learning styles. These assessments are used by schools as well as employers; the results of these assessments bring self-awareness allowing one to determine how one works individually and what one has to offer to a team. Teamwork is a part of everyday life; whether one is a student or an employee. As a student to know one’s learning style or personality type helps one discover the best way to study and retain information. It also allows one to assess how well one can contribute to and collaborate in a group project. As an employee, one works with a team daily therefore knowing the way one learns or one’s personality type allows them to â€Å"pinpoint your own strengths and weaknesses and let your teammates know where you can excel† (Wee ; Morse, 2007, para. 8), which makes delegating tasks and roles easier. In either setting, one can play up their strengths, build weaknesses, and focus their career to their sk ills and abilities. One’s learning style is â€Å"your mind’s particular way of taking in and processing information† (Carter, Bishop, ; Kravits, 2007, p. 38).Verbal-linguistic, interpersonal, and visual-spatial are just three of many learning styles one may fall into. A verbal-linguistic learner uses language to learn and can listen, memorize, and speak well. An interpersonal learner relates to others and considers the perspective of others. They learn best in group discussions or group activities. A visual-spatial learner is capable of perceiving and creating images. They use charts, diagrams, or graphs to learn effectively. For these three learners to work effectively together consider developing study groups in which each learner teaches the information to the group. In the study group include graphs or PowerPoint presentations for visual-spatial learners, group discussion for interpersonal learners, and outlines of the presentation for verbal-linguistic lear ners. Including different techniques will help each learner to perfect strengths and build weaknesses. An individual’s personality characteristics identify how one learns, thinks, reacts to others, and retains information. The three personality types that were assed were an Organizer, Adventurer, and a Giver. An Organizer is responsible, disciplined, and loyal. They work well in structured environments. An Adventurer is courageous, flexible, open-minded, and hands-on. A Giver is adaptable, honest, has open communication with others, and promotes potential in others. For these three personality types to collaborate together, the Organizer should create a schedule of tasks. The Giver and Organizer should request feedback to ensure all tasks are being met and each group member is equally participating. They should develop a game or use music to help memorize material or to present material for the Giver and Adventurer. All three personality types would enjoy working in a group wit h open communication. In a group, they can present new ideas to each other and establish those that work best to achieve their goal. In conclusion, although undefined, knowing one's learning style and personality type allows one to determine their skills and abilities to excel for two main reasons. First, one will be aware of what areas are their strongest and weakest. Most important, one will be aware of how one works individually and what one has to offer to a team.Personality types were assessed using the Myers-Briggs personality indicator and learning styles were assessed using Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences, which is used by schools as well as employers. These assessments prepare one for collaborating and communicating in a team either at school or in a work environment.References Carter, C. , Bishop, J. , & Kravits, S. (2007). The taste could be one thing that gets us addicted to drinking soda, it is delicious. In fact, it is so good, that many people drink it with every meal! 2Its Everywhere! Also, insulin itself becomes less effective at processing sugar; both conditions contribute to the risk of developing diabetes. Interestingly, women who consumed a lot of fruit juice--which is high in natural fructose--were not at increased risk of diabetes, leading researchers to speculate that naturally occurring sugars may have different metabolic effects than added sugars. They also speculate that vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals in fruit juices may have a protective effect against weight gain and diabetes, counterbalancing the adverse effects of sugar. Researchers from Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School4 analyzed data from the Nurses Health Study II, a trial tracking the health of more than 51,000 women. None of the participants had diabetes at the onset of the study in 1991. Over the following 8 years, 741 women were diagnosed with the disease. Researchers found that women who drank one or more sugary drinks a day gained more weight and were 83% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who imbibed less than once a month. 4Weakened Bones And Risk Of Osteoporosis Frequent consumption of soft drinks may also increase the risk ofShow MoreRelatedSoda Is Not Only Unhealthy1606 Words   |  7 PagesIntroduction Soda is not only unhealthy because it is a sugary drink, but it is also the most acidic thing that people drink on a daily basis.
